Dental Implants at Edinburgh Dental

If you’re reading this, then it’s very probable that you’ve been thinking about replacing your missing teeth for a while now. Those everyday moments – avoiding certain foods, hesitating before smiling in photos, or worrying about dentures moving – they seem to happen more and more, don’t they?

And, this probably isn’t the first dental website you’ve looked at today – many of our patients visited 3-5 websites before finding us. By now, you’ve likely seen the same “dental speak” repeated again and again and probably feel like you have a fairly good idea of the treatment options available.

If you want our explanation of treatments like “all-on-four”, “implant-retained dentures”, or “full arch restoration”, click on a button below. We’re happy to explain the difference between these options and address those “same-day-teeth” claims you might have seen elsewhere.

“All-on-Four” Implants

What is it?

A full arch of teeth supported by just four strategically placed implants. Think of it as a complete set of fixed teeth that don’t come out, feel natural, and let you eat virtually anything again. The “four” part means we use just four implants per jaw instead of 8-10, making treatment less invasive and often possible with less bone.

Who’s it for?

People missing all teeth in a jaw (or with severely damaged teeth needing removal) who want a fixed, permanent solution without removable dentures.

The honest bit

While some clinics advertise this as “teeth in a day”, that’s typically referring to temporary teeth. Your final, permanent teeth still take 3-6 months of healing time for best results. The investment is significant, but many patients tell us it’s life-changing.

Implant Retained Dentures

What is it?

A removable denture that securely clips onto 2-4 implants.

Imagine a denture that doesn’t slip, doesn’t need adhesive, and allows you to eat with confidence. The implants provide anchor points that the denture securely attaches to, but you can still remove it for cleaning.

Who’s it for?

People who want significantly more stability than traditional dentures offer, but at a lower cost than fixed implant bridges.

The honest bit

While much more secure than regular dentures, they’re still removable and cover part of your palate. However, they require fewer implants than fixed solutions, making them more affordable and often suitable for patients with some bone loss.

Full Arch Rehabilitation

What is it?

A comprehensive restoration of an entire jaw using multiple implants and fixed bridges.

This is the gold standard approach for replacing a complete arch of teeth. Using 6-8 implants per jaw, we create a rock-solid foundation for permanent bridges that look, feel and function just like natural teeth.

Who’s it for?

People wanting the most natural-feeling and aesthetically pleasing solution for replacing all teeth in a jaw, with optimal chewing function and minimal compromise.

The honest bit

This requires adequate bone and is the most investment-intensive option. However, it provides the most natural result with less bulk than other options and potentially the longest lifespan. For many patients, the additional investment is worth it for the superior comfort and confidence.

The “Same-Day Teeth” Concept

What is it?

A thoughtfully planned approach where temporary teeth are attached the same day implants are placed. While you leave with teeth on the day of surgery, these are carefully designed temporary teeth that protect the healing implants while giving you an immediate aesthetic improvement.

Who’s it for?

People who absolutely cannot be without visible teeth during the healing period, particularly those having front teeth replaced.

The honest bit

Despite what some marketing suggests, the final, permanent teeth still require 3-6 months of healing time for best results. The temporary teeth have limitations on what you can eat. The true “same-day” refers to not having a period without any teeth, not the completion of the entire treatment in one day.

Choosing the right treatment is not a DIY job

When it comes to deciding which treatment is truly right for your very specific situation, what you need isn’t another webpage.

What you actually need is: a relaxed cup of tea with someone who’s guided thousands of people through exactly what you’re experiencing now.

At Edinburgh Dental, that person is Pratibha or Kasia.

On a Zoom call or during a visit to our practice, they’ll take the time to understand your situation and guide you through the whole process of having implants – without any pressure or dental jargon.

This is why more than 150 dentists across the UK refer their own patients to us instead of attempting implant treatment themselves. They know their patients will receive honest guidance and the very best aftercare.

Only when you’re comfortable moving forward will Pratibha or Kasia introduce you to Dr Ahmed, who will carefully evaluate your teeth, explain your options, and recommend the best treatment specifically for you.

The longer you wait, the more challenging treatment can become. Many patients tell us their only regret is not getting implants sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Using advanced digital planning and premium materials, we create implant teeth that are indistinguishable from natural teeth. Many patients tell us even their closest friends can’t tell which teeth are implants. We can match the shape, colour, and positioning to complement your facial features and existing teeth.

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. While the crown (visible part) may need replacement after 10-15 years due to normal wear, the titanium implant itself becomes permanently integrated with your jawbone. This is why implants are considered the most cost-effective long-term solution for missing teeth.

The most common feedback we hear is, “they just feel like my own teeth.” Unlike dentures, there’s no plastic covering your palate, no movement when eating, and no need for adhesives. You care for them just like natural teeth. Many patients forget which teeth are implants because they function so naturally when eating, speaking, and smiling.

Quality implant treatment typically ranges from £2,850 for a single tooth implant to £12,500+ for full arch rehabilitation. However, the exact investment depends on your specific needs. Rather than giving you a generic price list, Stacey or Kaisa can provide transparent cost information tailored to your situation during your initial conversation. We offer interest-free payment plans to make treatment more accessible.

Just book that cup of tea with Stacey or Kaisa. This isn’t a “clinical” appointment – it’s a chance to ask questions, share concerns, and learn about options without any obligation or pressure. Many patients tell us this conversation was the moment they finally felt comfortable making this important decision about their dental health.

Jack Rollinson

Dental Therapist

Running is a big part of my routine. I mix up interval training with longer runs and I’m working towards a half marathon this year. I’m always trying to improve my time and keep things moving forward. Outside of that, I play football socially (Everton supporter — for better or worse!) and I’m looking forward to the World Cup, obviously!

I originally studied physiology before going back to train as a dental therapist. I’ve always been drawn to science, but I knew I wanted something a bit more hands-on — a role where every day is a bit different and you’re not stuck behind a screen.

When I’m not working, I like getting away and exploring new places. That could be a quiet weekend in the countryside with friends or a few days in a new city — Lisbon was a personal highlight! I like keeping things balanced — staying active, trying new things, and enjoying the pace of it all.
