Dental Checkups at Edinburgh Dental

A dental checkup shouldn’t feel like waiting for bad news. At Edinburgh Dental, we approach checkups as an opportunity to celebrate what’s going well with your oral health while catching any small issues before they become big ones.

Whether you’re diligent about your six-monthly visits or it’s been longer than you’d care to admit since your last checkup, you’ll find our approach refreshingly thorough yet relaxed.

Your Checkup Experience

Comprehensive Examination

We’ll examine your teeth, gums, tongue, and soft tissues, checking for any changes since your last visit.

Digital X-Rays (when needed)

Modern digital x-rays use minimal radiation. We also take digital intraoral scans of your teeth so we can see the whole picture

Professional Discussion

We’ll talk about what we’ve found, answer your questions, and discuss any treatment recommendations in clear, understandable terms.

Personalised Advice

Based on what we see, we’ll provide specific guidance for maintaining or improving your oral health at home.

What We’re Really Looking For

The Prevention Advantage

Regular checkups typically mean:

Smaller, simpler treatments when needed

Better long-term oral health outcomes

Lower overall dental costs over time

Early detection of serious conditions

Personalised advice to prevent future problems

Many of our patients tell us that consistent checkups have helped them avoid the major dental work they once expected to need as they aged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most adults benefit from checkups every six months, though some patients need more frequent visits depending on their oral health status. We’ll recommend the right schedule for your specific needs.

No problem at all. We’ll focus on understanding your current situation and creating a plan moving forward. There’s no lecturing – only professional care and practical solutions.

We only recommend treatments that are genuinely needed. Our approach is conservative, and we’ll always explain your options, including the pros and cons of different approaches or timing.

Checkups are generally comfortable. The examination itself involves no drilling or invasive procedures – just a thorough look at your oral health.

If we discover issues, we’ll explain them clearly and discuss treatment options. Nothing will be done without your understanding and consent, and we’ll prioritise treatments based on urgency and your preferences.

Absolutely! Checkups are perfect opportunities to discuss any concerns about your smile or explore cosmetic options that might benefit you.

When You Haven’t Been for a While

If it’s been longer than you’d planned since your last checkup, you’re not alone. We see many patients who’ve let appointments slide due to busy schedules, dental anxiety, or simply feeling like everything was fine.

There’s no judgment here – just professional care focused on getting your oral health back on track. Often, patients are pleasantly surprised that things aren’t as problematic as they feared.

Book Your Check-Up

Whether you’re maintaining regular care or getting back on track after a gap, we’re here to provide thorough, professional dental check-ups in a comfortable, judgment-free environment.

Jack Rollinson

Dental Therapist

Running is a big part of my routine. I mix up interval training with longer runs and I’m working towards a half marathon this year. I’m always trying to improve my time and keep things moving forward. Outside of that, I play football socially (Everton supporter — for better or worse!) and I’m looking forward to the World Cup, obviously!

I originally studied physiology before going back to train as a dental therapist. I’ve always been drawn to science, but I knew I wanted something a bit more hands-on — a role where every day is a bit different and you’re not stuck behind a screen.

When I’m not working, I like getting away and exploring new places. That could be a quiet weekend in the countryside with friends or a few days in a new city — Lisbon was a personal highlight! I like keeping things balanced — staying active, trying new things, and enjoying the pace of it all.
